Retracing the path of Seoul
Donuimun Museum Village - Seoul Urban Regeneration Gallery
Donuimun Gate, also more commonly referred to as Seodaemun, is the large old-city gate to the west of Hanyangdoseong, and was first built in 1396, only to be closed in 1413. In 1422 it was reconstructed at the Jeongdong Intersection, but in 1915, demolished in the name of urban planning by the colonial Japanese government. Donuimun Gate is said to remain as the only gate in Seoul that exists through story. It is the first neighborhood through the western gate of Hanyangdoseoung. The entire village has been reborn as a museum, and you can experience the life of the traditional Donuimun Village, including the house of an independence activist or restaurant alleys from the past. Also, the Seoul Urban Regeneration Gallery next to the Village provides views of contemporary Seoul. It is a wonderful area to experience various and unique stories from local people who created the neighborhoods vibrant culture, and efforts by the City of Seoul to preserve its brilliant historical value.

♥ Best bet is to visit on a sunny day to see both the outdoor village and indoor attractions.
♥ Comfortable shoes are recommended, since the area is quiet large.
♥ Vivid reproductions of Seoul’s past simulate a sense of traveling back in time and visitors can enhance their experience by renting retro styled costumes and clothing.

♥ There is a ‘Play Docent’ village tour everyday at 2 and 4pm (Reservation required).
