Basic Information

Overview

Ssamzigil, opened in December 2004 in the center of Insa-dong, is one of Insa-dong’s representative attractions, with many stores that reinterpret traditional Korean culture in a modern way. It is a complex cultural space to encounter various experiences with more than 70 stores of cultural and artistic works specializing in handicrafts. "Gil" means a road, and the name of the building has "Gil" because the entire fourth floor is connected by a single ramp.

Attractions

Following the road of about 500m from the Cheotgeoreumgil on the 1st floor to the Neoreumgil on the 4th floor, visitors can encounter another Insa-dong within Insa-dong where they can view, eat, buy, and enjoy various activities. Each floor is connected by a gentle slope, so it is convenient to reach the rooftop of Sky Garden while enjoying the view of the various shops. At Ssamzigil, there are various craftworks, such as ceramics, textiles, and metal woodwork, as well as challenging and experimental creative design products by young designers. Some chosen artisan’s workshops are acknowledged as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Seoul on Ssamzigil. At the lower road experience workshop, visitors can make crafts through various programs. In addition, through exhibitions and performances held in the yard on the first floor and all over Ssamzigil, visitors can experience the creative craft culture that blends tradition and modernity closely.

Accessibility

The entryway is flat and wide. The main entrance has no steps and tactile paving for persons with visual impairment is installed.  There is an elevator inside the building and also a female (1st ground floor) and male (1st basement floor) accessible restroom for persons with disabilities. The interior space is spacious enough for electric wheelchairs to freely move around.
