Basic Information

Overview

It is the first forest neighborhood park in Korea created as a part of the maintenance around the Yangjae tollgate to host major international sports competitions such as the 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Seoul Olympics. There are an outdoor wedding hall and a barbecue area. There are also memorial towers for the victims of The 9th Infantry Division, the Korean Air Flight 858, and the Sampoong Department Store. As there is the Maeheon Yun Bong-gil Memorial Hall on the northern side of the park, the official name was changed in October 2022 from Yangjae Citizens' Forest to Maeheon Citizen's Forest to commemorate the independence activist Yun Bong-gil.

Attractions

It is a dense forest, which is rare in the city center. There are about 94,800 trees of 43 species, including pine trees, zelkova trees, sugar maples, horse chestnut trees, persimmon trees, quince trees, and pine nuts. Also, there are many fruit trees, such as persimmons and quinces, so visitors can enjoy the rich nature especially in autumn. In addition, it has waterscape facilities such as ponds and fountains, a children's playground, and exercise facilities, the Maehun Yun Bong-Gil Memorial Hall.

Accessibility

The entryway is gently inclined with no steps or raised spots so anyone, including wheelchair users, can conveniently walk around. The main entrance has no steps and the surface road in the park is generally flat. There are five public restrooms with accessible restrooms. There are three parking facilities for persons with disabilities at the Maehun Yun Bong-Gil Memorial Hall.
