Basic Information

Overview

Cheonggyecheon is a 10.84km long stream that separates Jongno-gu and Jung-gu in Seoul. This stream contains the lives of Seoul citizens and the 600-year history of Seoul as the capital city. From 2003 to 2005, a 5.84km section around Cheonggyecheon-ro and Samil-ro was restored to transform it into a resting place for people. Also, extensive construction was carried out, such as installing 22 bridges. Currently, various cultural events are held around Cheonggye Plaza, making it an open art space for people and Cheonggyecheon continues to change for the citizens.

Attractions

The stream is a popular walking spot in the city for tourists and citizens of Seoul. The 'Cheonggye History Road,' 'Cheonggye Vitality Road,' and 'Cheonggye Rest Road' are representative walking courses along the stream. Tourists can enjoy Cheonggyecheon Guided Walking Tour with professional tour guide. The course is from Cheonggye Plaza to DDP and places where the history of Seoul is hidden, such as the Samilgyo Bridge and Supyogyo Bridge. It is roughly a two-hour walk, and it is recommended to use the Seoul Guided Walking Tour Website if tourists want to see and hear the hidden history of Seoul. In addition, various attractions are provided around Cheonggyecheon, such as the 'Shack Theme Zone,' which holds nature and ecology exhibitions, and the 'Proposal Wall,' a space for people to propose.

Accessibility

The entryway and main entrance are gently inclined along the Cheonggyecheon waterway, allowing wheelchair users to enter and exit. The road surface in Cheonggyecheon is generally flat and gently inclined, but caution is needed due to some sections of the road being uneven. There is tactile paving, a Korean braille guide map, and Korean braille information throughout Cheonggyecheon. The Samilgyo Tourist Information Center and Seoul Tourism Plaza, is accessible by wheelchair, provide tour guides for tourists who needs it. Moreover, there is an elevator that is rather small in size at Samilgyo Bridge and Hwanghaggyo Bridge, so caution is needed. The accessible restroom for persons with disabilities is in the public restroom located throughout Cheonggyecheon, including the Korea Tourism Organization Seoul center and the Hwanghaggyo Bridge. There is a diaper changing station in the Korea Tourism Organization Seoul center.
