Basic Information

Overview

The Seoul Calligraphy Art Museum, which opened together with the Music Hall in 1988, is Korea's first and only calligraphy exhibition hall. It reopened in 2016 and has five exhibition halls, including the "Experimental Exhibition Room", the "Permanent Exhibition Room", and the "Standing Exhibition Room". It was reborn as a museum with a space of 1,500 meters square, specializing in "the center of calligraphy and writing arts" in Korea, as well as in East Asia and the world.


Attractions

The Seoul Calligraphy Art Museum contains roughly 1,300 pieces of contemporary calligraphy works in East Asia and materials on modern and contemporary calligraphy history in Korea, such as 「Geunyeokseohwasa, an old document related to the history of calligraphy in Korea, China, and Japan. It hosts exhibitions that show the context of Korean calligraphy history. In particular, the "Special Exhibition on Korean Calligraphy," which began in 1988, distinguishes our calligraphy from that of China and provides an opportunity to change our perception of calligraphy. In addition, the Seoul Calligraphy Art Museum holds special exhibitions such as the < Exhibition for 30 Korean and Chinese Calligraphers > and <EGYPT, LAND OF DISCOVERIES >. Accessibility

The entryway is generally flat and wide, so wheelchair users and strollers can access easily. There is a slight ramp on the entryway. and main entrance are wide, flat, and has no steps. The information desk is at a moderate height, and wheelchairs and strollers can be rented. There is also a charger for electric wheelchairs nearby the information desk. The elevator inside the building is spacious, and operation buttons for wheelchair users are installed. The female and male accessible restroom for persons with disabilities is separated from the public restroom. There are parking facilities for persons with disabilities at the basement and ground floor of the Musical Hall parking lot. Moreover, there is a diaper changing station in the public restroom.
