Basic Information

Overview

The Sejong Center for the Performing Arts was Korea's unique culture and arts center until the Seoul Arts Center was built. It was the gateway to Korean performing arts and the only channel for international performing arts. In the 70s and 80s, it served as the cradle of Korean pure art. It opened in 1978 at the site of the Citizens’ Hall, which was burnt down. In 2004, Grand Theater is created in the center. In 2006 and 2007, art buildings with Sejong Chamber Hall and Sejong M Theater were expanded, where visitors can see various genres of performances and exhibitions. It is a space for creation and presentation for cultural artists, and a complex space that instills the beauty and pride of art in citizens.


Attractions

The center presents challenging and differentiated works every year based on the creativity of the Seoul Performing Arts Company. To increase the artistic participation of citizens, it conducts world-class performances, exhibitions, and educational programs. The "Sejong Grand Theater" in the center is a world-class venue used for classical music and performances of various genres, such as the dynamic stage with different stage changes. In addition, there are stage facilities such as Sejong M Theater and Sejong Chamber Hall, where guests can enjoy performances in a space optimized for performances such as opera, theater, and musical. The center continues to be a representative cultural and artistic institution in Korea. 


Accessibility

The entryway is wide, has no steps, and is gently inclined. The main entrance is flat, has no steps, and tactile paving is installed for persons with visual impairment. There is an information desk (ticket office) that is accessible to wheelchair users, and there is a Korean braille guide map for persons with visual impairment. Also, wheelchairs and strollers can be rented. The elevator is spacious enough, and there are vertical lifts installed at places where there are stairs. The female and male accessible restroom for persons with disabilities is separated from the public restroom. There are parking facilities for persons with disabilities at the Sejongno public parking lot. Moreover, there is a diaper changing station and a sofa in the nursing room near the Larva KIDS, on the second floor of the central stairs of the center.
