Basic Information

Overview 

Gaehwasan Mountain is a 128m high mountain located in Banghwa-dong, Gangseo-gu. The mountain faces Haengjusanseong with the Han River in between, and was alsocalled Juryongsan. At the time of the Japanese In vasion of Joseon in 1592, it was strategic location for the military due to its proximity to Haengjusanseong. The total distance from the entrance of the mountain to the observatory is 2.1km, of which 0.7km is paved with wooden decks to create a barrier-free trail through the forest. Obstacles such as steep inclines or stairways have been removed so that people using wheelchairs or strollers can safely enjoy the mountain climb.


Attractions 

Jarak-gil was created by maximizing the use of existing trails toprevent damage to the forest. There are over 37,000 plants from 14 different species, including wild cherry, hawthorn, and broadleaf liriope, so visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature through all four seasons. There are also two book cafes where you can enjoy reading and relaxing in the forest setting. About 400 book shave been donated by the local library and seats for readers are provided, making it a comfortable space for everyone.


Accessibility 

The entryway has no obstacle or incline and is wide. The decked pathway has slight inclines in some areas. An information board is displayed atthe entrance. The barrier-free decked path stops at the observatory. Accessible parking and restrooms are available. A diaper changing station is also available.
