Basic Information

Overview

Nakseongdae Park is the place where a star fell down from sky when General Kang Gam-chan (948-1031) was born in Bongceon-dong, Gwanak-gu. In commemoration, this place was designated as a sanctuary park in 1973. The general is revered as one of the greatest warriors in Korea's 5,000-year history as a hero in the Battle of Guiju, who defeated 400,000 Khitan troops during the reign of King Hyeonjong of Goryeo.

Attractions

Representative attractions of the park include ‘Nakseongdae Three-level Stone Pagoda’, ‘Anguksa Temple’, and ‘Nakseongdae Birthplace site’. The AnguksaTemple is modeled after the Muryangsujeon of Buseoksa Temple in Yeongju, which represents the wooden architectural style of the Goryeo Dynasty. ‘Nakseongdae Birthplacesite’ marks the actual birthplace of General Kang Gam-chan.  A three-level stone pagoda was originally located on the site of this house, but it was moved to Anguksa Temple duringthe construction of the park and a monument was established in its place. Angukmun and Naesammun, which are the three outer gates, are located in front of the park entrance. There is a historical monument opposite the three-level memorial stone.
